Arizona

Arizona in many ways epitomizes the grandeur of the American West. Home to Grand Canyon National Park the stark and beautiful stone landscapes of Arizona have lured visitors for over a century.

Tombstone, Arizona got its name when a friend remarked to the town's founder, prospector Ed Schiefflin, "the only thing you'll find out there will be your own tombstone." The silver Schiefflin discovered was soon gone and perhaps the town would have joined Arizona's many ghost towns were it not for the famous showdown at the OK Corral which attracts many tourists every year.

Ghost towns are fascinating feature of the Arizona landscape, many the product of the boom in prospecting in the late 1800s.

The cliff dwellings of the Anasazi people are in Arizona's Four Corners district. The Anasazi left their remarkable homes in the cliffs for unknown reasons around 1300 year ago. A more modern place of interest is the Airplane Graveyard at Davis Monthan Air Force Base near Tucson where old B-52s go to be destroyed and other armaments are sold to foreign governments.
