Once known as the “Richest Hill on Earth”, Butte offers vintage architecture and historical reminders of its colorful past as a mining boom town. In 1977, the city and county governments consolidated to form the sole entity of Butte-Silver Bow, but it is still commonly referred to as merely “Butte”. Population: The population of Butte was 31,959 people as of 2011.
