Charleston had its beginnings in 1670, and has become known as The Holy City due to the numerous steeples which dot the city's skyline. It was also one of the few cities in the original thirteen colonies to provide religious tolerance. Today the city has invested in a number of municipal improvements and a commitment to historic preservation. A very cool way to get from Point A to Point B is the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge http://www.ravenelbridge.net across the Cooper River which is the longest cable-stayed bridge in the U.S. It has eight lanes and a 12-foot pedestrian and bicycle lane.
