Perched at 6512 feet above sea level, Durango is the county seat of La Plata County. It is located in the southwest corner of Colorado near the Four Corners area, and is one of the archetypal old Colorado mining towns, filled with graceful hotels, Victorian-era saloons and mountains as far as the eye can see. Population: 16,887 as of the 2010 census.

Durango is best known for the Historic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, and for its proximity to Mesa Verde National Park.
