Gary is located on the shores of Lake Michigan and on three major Interstate highways, at the Crossroads of America. It is 25 miles from downtown Chicago, and is considered a part of Chicagoland. It was named after the chairman of U.S. Steel, Elbert H. Gary, and its economy has always been linked to this industry. Population: Garys population was 80,294 at the 2010 census.
