The capital of the U.S. state of Indiana, Indianapolis is the thirteenth largest city in the United States, and has a growth profile closer to the Sun Belt than to the Rust Belt. Indianapolis International Airport is one of the world's most environmentally friendly, with more than 90 percent of the materials used to build it having come from within 500 miles. Indianapolis Public Transportation Corporation, known locally as IndyGo, provides local service.

Travel and tourism: “Indy” has the distinction of devoting more acreage to honoring veterans than any other city. It's second only to Washington, D.C. in the number of war memorials. Tourism is also a vital part of the economy of Indianapolis, and the city hosts numerous conventions and sporting events of which probably the most famous is the annual Indy 500.
