Jacksonville Florida


Jacksonville is the most populous city in Florida, and the eleventh largest in the United States. By land area, it is also the largest city in the U.S. It is located on the banks of the St. Johns River, about 25 miles south of the Georgia border and 340 miles north of Miami. The oldest remnants of pottery in the United States have been found here, dating back to 2500 BC. The French arrived in 1562, and Spanish and British also occupied it at one time. Population: Jacksonville has a population of 821,784. The Greater Jacksonville Metropolitan Area has 1,313,228 people.

Climate: Jacksonville has mild weather during winters, although there can be hard freezes during the night. It has hot weather during summers. Rainfall averages around 52 inches annually. On average, there are 221 sunny days per year in Jacksonville which makes it a golfer’s paradise for retirement.

Downtown Jacksonville’s riverfront streets are lined with boutiques and sidewalk cafes. In 1993 it was awarded an NFL franchise, the Jacksonville Jaguars.
