Manchester is an intriguing riverside town that was once home to the worlds largest textile mill. Having gone bankrupt in the 30s, today the iconic brick mill houses a museum, an arts center, a college, several restaurants and a variety of local businesses. High-tech and financial industries have replaced manufacturing, and they have brought city culture such as opera, galleries, orchestras, and an art museum. Population: As of 2011, Manchester's population is 108,895.
Climate: Manchester has four distinct seasons, with long, cold, snowy winters, and very warm and somewhat humid summers. The area gets 40 inches of rain and 61 inches of snowfall per year.
Cost of living: In 2009, Manchester was voted the second most tax friendly city in the United States, and first on Forbes magazines list of "America's 100 Cheapest Places to Live.

Colleges and Universities: Granite State College boasts an Osher Lifelong Learning Institute which offers noncredit courses, trips and social activities to retirees in New Hampshire. Transportation:Manchester-Boston Regional Airport serves the area. It is Bostons secondary airport, but the fourth largest airport in New England and provides all the air service a retiree could ask for. Manchester Transit Authority runs several bus routes throughout the city, and there are many commuter train connections.
Travel and tourism: Manchester residents are proud of the fact that the area is close to everything, yet many people find they never have to leave home to pursue their favorite retirement activities. The city is home to the states largest civic arena and a majority of New Hampshires major cultural institutions.
