Miami, known as the "Magic City", is located in Southeast Florida, in Miami-Dade County on the Miami River, between the Florida Everglades and the Atlantic Ocean. It is one of the state's most popular vacation spots and is well-known for its beaches, trendy nightlife, the Art Deco district, Calle Ocho and Little Havana. Miami was ranked "America's Cleanest City" by Forbes magazine in 2008 for its air quality, green spaces, drinking water, clean streets and city-wide recycling programs. Population: Miami has a population of 399,457 with a metro area of around 5.5 million.

Climate: Miami receives 60 inches of rain per year, but with 248 sunny days to enjoy beaches and golf.

Cost of living: Compared to the rest of the country, Miami's cost of living is 14.60% higher than the U.S. average.

Housing costs: The median home cost in Miami is $240,900, approximately 13% higher than the national average.

Colleges and Universities: Miami Dade College has an impressive array of continuing education and non-credit classes which will appeal to retirees.

Transportation:Miami International Airport serves over 35 million passengers a year. The Port of Miami is the largest cruise ship port in the world. Public transportation in Miami includes commuter rail, heavy-rail rapid transit, an elevated people mover, and buses. About 17% of Miamians use transit on a daily basis, the highest percentage in Florida. Walk Score ranked Miami as number eight of the most walkable largest cities in the United States.

Travel and tourism: Miami has earned a reputation as "the birthplace of New World Cuisine" which means the retiree can enjoy discovering unexpected flavors and dining experiences with endless international options. Every week the SoundScape Cinema Series offers a free, open-air movie projected onto the New World Center's 7,000-square-foot wall. Sports fans will appreciate the new Miami Marlins stadium which has a retractable roof and a number of state-of-the-art features, and of course Miami is also home to the Dolphins and Heat.
