Newport Beach is known for its “villages”, each with its own distinct character and appearance, one of which is Balboa Peninsula. This area is surrounded by water, as it faces the harbor on one side and the open ocean on the other. Population: As of 2010, Newport Beach has an estimated permanent population of 86,738 but during the summer months the population grows to more than 100,000.

Colleges and Universities: Coastline Community College is probably the retiree’s best bet for learning in retirement. It describes itself as one of the nation’s most innovative institutions with accessible and flexible education within and beyond the traditional classroom.

Transportation:Newport Beach is within close proximity to Los Angeles and San Diego, so many transportation options exist. However, the most convenient way to get around town is by car.

Travel and tourism: Newport Beach’s stunning coastal location and sunny year-round weather offer a variety of things to do from the oldest and most celebrated Holiday events to Restaurant Week to the beginning of Whale Watching season and the migration of thousands of birds in the Upper Newport Bay.
