Founded in 1849, the City of Sacramento is the oldest incorporated city in California and the state’s capital. Sacramento has its share of stately government buildings, and long, tree-lined streets of Victorian homes. On the river’s edge, the original city, Old Sacramento, is reminiscent of simpler times of river boats and wooden sidewalks. Population: As of the 2010 census, Sacto had 466,488 residents.
