In the heart of the San Joaquin River Valley, Stockton functions as an inland sea port and is actually connected westward with San Francisco Bay. The California Delta makes up thousands of miles of waterways and rivers in and around Stockton, so boating and fishing are popular retirement pastimes here. Population: 291,707 people lived in Stockton as of the 2010 census.

Climate: Stockton has dry summers and cool but mild, wet winters. The area gets 16 inches of rain per year and no snowfall.

Transportation:San Joaquin Regional Transit District provides local service, as well as Altamont Commuter Express. Stockton Metropolitan Airport is served by Allegiant Air, and Amtrak also offers rail service to major destinations on the west coast.

Travel and tourism: The Historic Fox Theatre is used for movies and live performances, and has been extensively renovated over the past years. It is one of only two "movie palaces" in the Central Valley. Retirees who love their dogs will appreciate Stockton’s many dog parks such as Barkleyville which consists of four acres with a separate play/agility course.
