Tempe is an inner suburb, bordered by Phoenix, Scottsdale, Mesa and Chandler. Retirees flock here for its legendary 330 days of sunshine each year, and average temperature of 85.3 degrees. It is named after the Vale of Tempe in Greece. Population: Current population: 165,000+

Climate: Tempe’s weather is very pleasant nine months of the year, but Arizona’s hot summers are renowned. Annual precipitation: 7.63 inches, plenty of sunshine for golfing and other outdoor forms of exercise in retirement.

Transportation:Tempe is conveniently located just 10 minutes from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Valley Metro operates bus routes and a Light rail system. Residents and commuters here are enthusiastic users of public transit, and service is offered on a more frequent basis than elsewhere in the state including several free neighborhood shuttles around ASU.

Travel and tourism: Tempe abounds with history, culture, shopping, dining, nightlife, sports and special events. Some fun things to do in retirement are: attending an ASU football game, going on a shopping spree at Arizona Mills, Tempe Marketplace or the largest IKEA on the West Coast, kayaking on Tempe Town Lake, enjoying a Broadway performance at ASU Gammage, hiking in the picturesque Papago Park or simply lounging by the pool.
