Taking its name from the native Tupelo Gum Tree, Tupelo is a diverse and progressive city that is probably most famous as the birthplace of Elvis Presley. Tupelo’s emergence as a railway and manufacturing center made it the first U.S. city to switch on a cheap and reliable source of electricity, through the Tennessee Valley Authority.
