Atlanta is Georgia's
key metropolitan area and a city that has become emblematic of
the USA's New South. About half of all the jobs in Georgia are
in the Atlanta area. Atlanta Hartsfield International is one of
the world's busiest Airports. Retirement in Atlanta
offers rich history, relatively low real estate prices compared
to much of the rest of the country, and many other retirement
amenities.
Atlanta also offers the prospective retiree, visitor, and
resident a diverse number of great restaurants, nightlife,
sports facilities and more.
Atlanta has hosted the Superbowl, the World Series, and was the
venue for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games.
In 1864 General Sherman's infamous "March to the Sea" set fire
to Atlanta and then created destruction all the way to Savannah
in a military action that was intended to break the morale of
the local population which supported the Confederacy.
Georgia has not forgotten this tragic historic time, and towns
along this path showcase the event in many ways.
As you travel away from the bustling Atlanta the Old South
weaves its magic on the visitor. Savannah is noted for
antebellum mansions and a huge historic district of almost 22
square miles. Georgia wilderness areas includeOkefenokee
National Wildlife Refuge (and swamp), the Chattahoochee River
and the Oconee National Forest. Lake Oconee region is a golfer's
dream with seven championship course.
