New Mexico offers retirees some of the USA's finest scenery and natural beauty.  New Mexico's small  population means that there are far fewer retirement communities and big city amenities, but for many retirees the rural western splendor of New Mexico is just what they are looking for in Retirement.

In terms of climate, New Mexico is very dry although there are also some areas with an "alpine" and "continental" climates.  Most parts of New Mexico are very sparsely populated and covered by mountains, high plains, and desert. The High Plains are in the eastern portion of the state and similar to Colorado's high plains.
